Santa Clarita Weekly: Interview with Lynne Plambeck, president of SCOPE and former member of the Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency Board of Directors, on the Chiquita Canyon Landfill

Apr 26, 2024 - The Grand Prix of Long Beach was on Sunday, Apr 21, 2024. Veteran driver Scott Dixon pulled off a win at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. This is his second victory at Long Beach and his 57th career IndyCar win.

Dixon strategically stretched the fuel in his car to conserve gas for the final 34 laps. This strategy proved successful as he secured the win by nearly a second over Colton Herta. Alex Palou, Josef Newgarden, and Marcus Ericsson rounded out the top five.

Newgarden, the 2023 Indy 500 winner, seemed poised to challenge Dixon for the lead. However, contact with Herta caused him to stall and lose two positions. Despite the incident, no penalties were issued, and Herta and Newgarden were seen talking calmly afterward. Colton himself said that he probably should have received a penalty.

Tim talked to Colton Herta, who grew up in Santa Clarita, before the race and asked him about what he likes to do when he comes back home to Santa Clarita among other things.

Tim Haddock: When you come back home to Valencia, come back home to Santa Clarita, where is your favorite place to visit, and what do you like to do when you're when you're back home?

Colton Herta: So for me, it's it's all about food. Um, that's what I miss the most when I'm away from home is some of the places I grew up going to eat. Um, so when I'm back home, there's a few places in now. Burgers. Obviously the biggest place you can get that anywhere in California or on the West Coast. Um, so in Santa Clarita, I love Solitos, uh, which is a Mexican place. I love Tacos Hermanos, which is a taco truck in Castaic. Um, and then let's see, I love Masa Ramen, which is a ramen shop in, uh, in Valencia. Okay. So a lot of good places out there, though.

Tim: Okay. Let me ask you about your driving history. Yeah. When did you get your driver's license and what was your first car?

Colton: I got my driver's license at 16, and I purchased a BMW M135i used, like, 2008, 2009.

Tim: Okay. Um, and what do you drive now? And what would be your dream car to drive around every day?

Colton: So I have an Acura MDX. Um, and then I just I actually just ordered yesterday a RS Q8, which is going to be an awesome car. It's a car that I've looked at for a while. It's basically the, um, 600 horsepower, all-wheel drive Audi SUV. It's a big car.
