George Whitesides has won the election for California’s 27th Congressional District after incumbent Rep. Mike Garcia conceded. The latest vote count from the Los Angeles County Registrar showed Whitesides leading by 6,983 votes, prompting Garcia’s call to acknowledge his defeat. Whitesides expressed gratitude to his supporters and pledged to focus on local jobs, affordability, and protections for Social Security, Medicare, and reproductive rights as he prepares to take office.

The proposition to raise the minimum wage for fast food workers in California looks like it failed. In sports, Golden Valley and Santa Clarita Christian were eliminated from the CIF Southern Section football playoffs. The Rams bounced back with an impressive win on the road in New England against the Patriots. The Kings are back to their winning ways, taking down the Detroit Red WIngs at home.
